TECHNICAL INFORMATION

IMPROVEMENTS TO REDEMPTION GRACE PERIOD PROCESS
Please note the following improvements to the Redemption Grace Period (RGP) process effective 5 December 2017. This will impact all TLDs on the Afilias Shared Registry System at epp.afilias-srs.net, https://admin.afilias-srs.net.

Currently, accredited registrars must submit an EPP DomainUpdate command to restore the domain. Thereafter, within 5 calendar days, registrars must submit a restore report for applicable TLDs to fully restore the domain name. The restore report is reviewed and the domain restored if there are no issues with the report.

On 30 November 2017, the restore report review and restoration of the domain will be fully automated and domains will be unlocked immediately upon the receipt of a properly formatted restore report.

Please note there are no changes to the EPP commands to restore the domain. Once submitted, the domain will be removed from pendingDelete state and have the following statuses placed on it as it does today:

  • serverUpdateProhibited

  • serverRenewProhibitied

  • serverDeleteProhibited

  • serverTransferProhibited

  • RGP status - pendingRestore.

Once a restore report is received for a domain that is in pendingRestore, the domain will be restored automatically to its pre-deleted state, all RGP related server prohibited statuses will be removed at that time.

If a restore report is not received within 3 calendar days of submitting a restore request, a poll message will be added to the registrar’s poll queue reminding them that a restore report is needed. This reminder message will be posted to the registrar poll queue on a daily basis until the 5 day period to submit the restore report has expired and the domain is reverted to pendingDelete state and a poll message informing the registrar of the deletion will be added to the sponsoring registrar's poll queue. Note - once the name reverts back to pendingDelete, the registrar must re-submit the restore command and RGP restore report to fully restore the domain name.

Each restore command is subject to a non-refundable restore fee. Please refer to the Customer Portal or contact Technical Support for information on the restore fees for each TLD.

The following is a sample of the poll queue message that will be posted:

{
"message":"RGP Restore Report Needed",
"domainName":"testingdd.global",
"restoreRequestedDate":"2017-08-24T18:45:18.812Z",
"dueDate":"2017-08-29T18:45:18.812Z"
}

Please note the following for TLDs where restore reports are NOT required:

  • The following TLDs in the Afilias Shared Registry System at epp.afilias-srs.net/https://admin.afilias-srs.net do not require a restore report to completely restore the domain name - .me, .ag, .bz, .lc, .mn, .sc, .vc

  • For the above TLDs, the domain will be fully restored upon the receipt of a successful restore request.

  • If a restore report is submitted to restore a domain in the TLDs listed above, the command will fail and the registry will throw a "2304:Object status prohibits operation" error message. Please make any changes to your EPP clients if applicable; and test these changes in the OT&E environment to mitigate against unexpected behavior in production.

There are no changes to the daily RGP and RHP reports that you currently receive via the Afilias Reports Library at sftp://reports.afilias.info.

The above improvement will be available to test in the Shared Complex OT&E environment (https://ote1.afilias-srs.net) no earlier than 17:00 UTC on 16 November 2017. Registrars are encouraged to test their client behavior and poll queue message handling to mitigate against unexpected behavior in production.

Should you have any questions, please contact Afilias Technical Support at techsupport@afilias-srs.info.
POSTAL CODE OPTIONAL
Registrars are required to maintain accurate and up-to-date information concerning their sponsored domains in the WHOIS system at all times.

As you may aware, postal codes are not used amongst all the jurisdictions in the world. Therefore, effective April 7, 2017, the postal code on all contact objects in the Afilias registry system at epp.afilias-srs.net will be made optional. "Postal code" fields may be left blank if not available.

We do not anticipate any changes required to your EPP clients as a result of this update.

Please note this is applicable to TLDs that are owned and operated by Afilias in the Afilias registry system at epp.afilias-srs.net, including .GLOBAL.

Please contact Afilias Technical Support if you have any questions

UNASSOCIATED CONTACT OBJECT MANAGEMENT POLICY
Child Hosts for domain on serverHold

As a security instrument, .GLOBAL has adopted the following policy:

Child hosts CAN NOT be created for a domain name with status serverHold[/highlight]

Rationale: A domain name with status serverHold is NOT resolved in DNS. Child hosts can allow an attacker or malicious actor to keep their domain up indefinitely even if the domain is placed on serverHold. The IPs on the child hosts will still respond authoritatively in the DNS. Due to this, a child hosts cannot be created if domains are on serverHold.

The status of a domain name can be investigated using WHOIS
.GLOBAL SRS USPPORT UTF8 CHARACTERS FOR CONTACTS
Please be advised that Afilias Shared Registry System will support UTF8 characters within the contact postal info data effective 5 October 2015 no sooner than 15:00 UTC and no later than 16:00 UTC.

When submitting UTF8 characters the registrar must specify the contact postal info type as “loc” (localized). Once the UTF8 support is enabled in the Afilias’ shared registry system, registrars will have two options when specifying contact postal info, either type=”loc” or type=”int” (internationalized).

Internationalized will only accepts ASCII characters whereas the localized type will accept both UTF8 and ASCII. If the registrar attempts to submit UTF8 characters while specifying type=”int” then the registry will throw an error.

Please note that only one address type (either “loc” or “int”) is permitted per contact. UTF8 support will be enabled in the OT&E environment effective 15 Sept 2015.
NEW DIGEST TYPES IN DNSSEC DS RESOURCE RRECORDS
From April 7 2018 after 16:00 UTC, Afilias Shared Registry will support the following new digest types in DNSSEC DS Resource Record:

GOST R 34.11-94 (digest type 3)
SHA-384 (digest type 4)

Samples of the EPP commands are available at the Afilias Customer Portal in “Domain Create - DS Records” and “Domain Update Add DS records” under Support, EPP Commands.
